TAE – KWON – DO
Poster Series
This year I started volunteering at a refugee center besides my day-to-day design work. Many of the residents there were desperate for physical and psychological compensation in their often bleak daily routines. As a reaction to all the demoralizing headlines on immigration policy, I decided to take action and teach a weekly Taekwondo class there.
Taekwondo is a Korean martial art I learned from my dad, when I was a kid. The name is derived from the Korean words Tae – kicking techniques, Kwon – fist techniques and Do – the way or the state of mind.
For the weekly Taekwondo class I made this Poster series. The varying lines connecting the words Tae–Kwon–Do symbolize the journey every Taekwondo student has to take; sometimes easy and smooth, sometimes hard and rough. Much like the journey for most refugees coming to Germany.
The handsome man on the main poster is my dad in his heydays. I'm proud to pass his Taekwondo knowledge to the next generations and give back to the community.
